A plan is not feasible because it fits in a spreadsheet
Production plans become executable when demand, material readiness, real capacity, sequencing constraints, and commercial commitments agree. When one of those inputs is assumed rather than verified, pressure arrives later as replanning, overtime, idle lines, or a missed promise.
Readiness is therefore a shared operating state, not a single planning score. It should make uncertainty visible early enough for the factory and brand to choose together.
1. Is the demand signal clear enough to act on?
The latest quantity is not sufficient context. Teams need to know what changed, when it changed, the level of commitment behind it, and which previous assumptions it replaces. A revision without provenance creates parallel plans.
2. Are the required materials available when the schedule needs them?
Material readiness must be connected to the production decision it enables. Confirm quantity, timing, quality status, allocation, and substitution policy. A material that exists somewhere in the network is not necessarily ready for this order or line.
3. Does capacity reflect the real constraint?
Nominal capacity can conceal changeovers, learning curves, labour availability, machine constraints, maintenance, and competing commitments. The useful question is not whether capacity exists in aggregate, but whether the required operation is feasible in the necessary window.
4. Can downstream commitments absorb the choice?
A feasible factory schedule may still move inspection, packing, transport, or delivery commitments. Trace these consequences before approval so that a local optimization does not become a network exception.
5. Is decision ownership explicit?
Name who can recommend, who must approve, who acts, and who verifies. When a decision crosses brand and factory boundaries, each participant should receive the context they need without assuming identical access or authority.
- Record the originating signal and its timestamp.
- Attach the evidence used to test feasibility.
- Show the options considered and the governing policy.
- Identify the approved action and owner.
- Verify the operational handoff after the decision.
